About

I'm Mark Silvester. I help platform engineering teams figure out how to operationalise AI — the infrastructure, developer experience, and delivery patterns that take AI from prototype to production.

I'm an editor at InfoQ, one of the most respected technical publications in software engineering, where I cover the intersection of platform engineering and AI. I work on the DevOps queue, highlighting industry news on DevOps and Platform Engineering.

My focus sits at a specific intersection: the engineering that makes AI real. Not the data science. Not the model training. The infrastructure, practices, tooling, and organisational patterns that platform teams need to make AI work in production.

Day job

By day I'm Platform & Architecture Manager at Griffiths Waite, a technology consultancy based in Birmingham. My work spans platform strategy, architecture, cloud infrastructure, and developer experience — the practical, unglamorous work of making engineering organisations run well.

What I write about

Platform engineering is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in tech, and every organisation adopting AI is hitting the same operationalisation wall. I write about what's working, what isn't, and the patterns emerging from teams that are figuring it out.

Topics I cover include:

  • AI platform infrastructure and architecture
  • Internal developer platforms for AI/ML workloads
  • Golden paths for model deployment
  • The organisational patterns around AI operationalisation
  • MLOps, platform engineering, and where they meet

Speaking

I speak at conferences and meetups on platform engineering and AI operationalisation. If you'd like me to speak at your event, get in touch.
